Handmade was founded in 2009 by Hala Ashour. Ever since she took her first crocheting and knitting class at the German School in Cairo, she has dreamed of transforming her passion for handicrafts into a business. In 2009, she established Handmade as a craft center and yarn shop. Starting with only three girls making knitting and crocheting samples, Hala soon created a market niche for Handmade in crocheted home and personal accessories. Today she has a lot of women working and distributes her products to shops in Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, El Gouna and Saudi Arabia. She has attended numerous fairs in Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Italy and France where her products are always among the most eye-catching and innovative exhibits

One of Hala’s favorite things about Handmade is that it has allowed her to train many women in knitting, crocheting and sewing, empowering them and helping them become self-reliant, productive members of society. Over the years, she has trained girls from the Banati Foundation as well as Sudanese refugees, widows and women with physical disabilities

Handmade offers crochet products that are practical and look nice in order to show that crochet can be incorporated in almost everything and can look modern and funky. What made us successful in the past years is the practicality and durability of our products as well as the good application of color in the form of creative designs.

We produce personal as well as home accessories that are mostly crochet (though some are knitted) and are all produced by girls and women who work for the company. What makes our products unique are the designs and colors which are carefully chosen by the owner Hala Ashour and the fact that we are always ready to make any custom order for our clients, so that they can personalize their home accessories to perfectly fit their style.
